Pride use Four Goal Third Quarter to Seal Game

A physical contest and a 1-1 tie were blown open Wednesday night at Hix Field in Oxford, as the Pride of Leesville Road High School used a 7-0 run to finish the game off and win the first meeting between Webb and Leesville with an 8-1 win.  The game was played at Hix due to conflicts at Warrior Field.

The Pride got on the board first before Rufus Terry took a pass from classmate Teddy Anderson, bolted to his left and hit the back of the net to tie the game 1-1.  Sadly, this was the only score of the night for the Black and Red, who were shut out from then on out.

The Pride took a 3-1 lead into halftime, and scored their fourth goal in the third quarter; it was their third man up goal of the evening.  The Warriors were keeping themselves in it before injury struck hard: as senior goalie Christian Tilley, who already made 11 saves on the evening, carried the ball up the sideline, he was hit high and hard by a Pride player, ending his night.  Senior Reggie Campos came in to replace him, but was injured himself, leaving the Warriors with two wounded goalies.  The Pride managed to get three more goals in the third quarter before ending the night with one more in the fourth.

In the JV game, Leesville prevailed 14-0 over the Warriors JV.

The Pride improve to 4-1 on the year, while Webb loses its first and falls to 2-1.  Leesville next plays Needham Broughton High School on Friday night, while Webb travels to conference rival Jordan High School the same night.  Game times for Webb are 4:45 for the JV teams and 6:30 for the Varsity.

Game Notes:  It was the first ever meeting between the two teams...Tilley is now 9 saves shy of 300 for his career...Webb lost the face-off battle for the first time in seven games, dating back to last season...It also snaps a three game winning streak for the Warriors, dating back to the end of last year...In the last 12 games (including this one) the Warriors defense has surrendered double digit goals just twice.
