Warriors Open 2013 Season Officially; Heritage Scrimmage to be Rescheduled

The 2013 edition of the Black and Red got off to a fast start Wednesday, February 13th at the Masonic Home for Children.  Entering its fourth year in existence, the Warriors of JF Webb hit the ground running fresh off of its most impressive campaign yet: an 8-9 finish, five All Conference selections, and the team's first ever All Region and All State selection.

The Warriors got things started with a new tradition, as the Seniors and Coaches ate together (pictured left).  They also got a look at the team's new away uniforms: custom Nike Vapors with holographic decals on the shoulders (pictured above; Seniors present left to right are Antonio Jones, Joseph Toto, Jon Greene, Cedric Spence, Jacob Ragland, Bobby Faulkner, Justin Wilbanks, Teddy Anderson, Christian Tilley, and Reggie Campos).  The players then all hit the practice field for their first full day of practice.

"The 2013 lacrosse season is finally here, and it was an exciting day as the boys got back on the field to prepare for our first game against Orange HS, Feb 27," said David Farabee, entering his fourth season at the helm of the program.  "As Webb lacrosse enters its 4th year, we have more boys than ever playing, and we look forward to taking the next step competitively. Although we will miss Nathan Farabee's presence on the sideline, we can only wish him the best as he has moves out to Texas for a great career opportunity. He will also be the assistant lacrosse coach at a local high school. Nathan has done tremendous work with our goalies and defense and he brought the players to a higher level of play.

"But as Nathan leaves, we are delighted to welcome Richard Branch as our new JV head coach and assistant varsity coach.  Richard brings tremendous knowledge, experience, and intensity to our program, and we know he will continue to help our players reach new levels of play.  We hope all our parents and friends will come out and support the boys this year. It is great to be part of Webb lacrosse!"

The Warriors return 15 players from their Varsity squad last year, including all three starting close defenders, both long stick midfielders and goalies, their leading face-off man, and a pair of starters each at offensive midfield, defensive midfield, and attack.  A more detailed season preview will be in the news in the next few days once the rosters have been set.

The Warriors had a scrimmage for Saturday against Heritage High School postponned due to snow; it is being rescheduled and the new date will be announced in the next few days.  Webb opens the season February 27th at home against Orange High School.  Game time for JV is 5 pm, with Varsity facing off at 7.  Tickets are five dollars at the gate.
