Warriors Winless in Conference

The Warriors traveled to Riverside Tuesday night and fell to the Pirates 18-0.  The contest was the first of three games this week for the Black and Red, falling to 2-8 on the season, while the Pirates improved their record to 6-3.

The Webb defensive unit continued to improve on the year, forcing the Pirates’ offense to work hard for their goals, often times having to dodge two or three times to get an open look, while the offense, despite not scoring, was able to string several passes together and move the ball around more efficiently than they have done all year.

“I think tonight was the best game we have played all season.  Of course that sounds crazy since we lost 18-0; but we were playing an extremely strong Riverside team, and, as I have been trying to say all year, the score is not our standard of success this first year.  Riverside had to work hard to score, and for the first time all season, we began to put a bit of pressure on the opponent’s defense.  Matt Roach, Matt Knott, and Dylan Lawson each made some nice contributions on the offensive end.  Our passes were sharper, we are beginning to catch more balls, and our communication is improving.  We continue to get better defensively, with Eller, Barnes, Jones, and Terry giving every team we meet a challenging defensive front.  I was very pleased with how we played tonight, and look forward to our remaining four games.”

In goal for the Warriors, Christian Tilley continued his impressive freshman season, stopping 12 shots while allowing 13 goals before being relieved by Larry Hester, who allowed 5 and stopped 5 in the fourth quarter.  The Warriors face Wakefield next on Thursday on the road, while the Pirates have a two day wait for their next game, a Friday Conference 4 showdown with cross-town rival Jordan High School.
