WARRIORS MOVE TO BIG EIGHT LACROSSE CONFERENCE, FACE FIVE NEW OPPONENTS

The Black and Red schedule for 2014 has been set and it features both familiar faces and new ones, as the Warriors begin playing in Lacrosse Conference 6, composed of all Big Eight Conference schools with the exception of Southern Durham High School and with the addition of Southern Vance High School.  The schedule features 17 games, including 10 home games and an even mixture of past opponents (five) and new ones (five).

The schedule may be viewed here.

The Warriors will only have seven technical "conference" games: to accomodate all teams and allow for more flexible scheduling, each team will play each other team in conference at least once and this will count towards overall Big Eight standings.  The Warriors do not play two Big Eight teams twice but do play the other five teams twice; one of each of those games doesn't count towards overall standings, though.

The Warriors host Heritage High School for a pre-season scrimmage on Saturday, February 15th at a time that is yet to be determined.  They then host the 5th Annual Warrior Games, a pre-season day of scrimmages that Webb has hosted ever since its 2010 inception.  Teams slated to appear in this are yet to be determined.

The first game of the year will feature a rematch of last season's heartbreaking and post-season-hopes-ending match against Roxboro Community School. A game under the Friday Night Lights, it is set for the 28th of February at 7 pm.  The following week, Webb travels to Northern Durham High School on March 4th, then to Orange High School on March 5th before hosting its second straight Friday home game, this one against Northern Durham, on the 7th.

Tuesday, March 11th will introduce the Warriors to their first new opponent of the year as the Jaguars of Carrboro High School travel to Warrior Field for a 7 pm showdown.  Carrboro's first year as a team was 2008, and ever since 2009 when they first played in the post-season, a 9-6 loss against Western Guilford High School, the Jaguars have not missed a post-season, with their biggest win coming in overtime against Jordan High School, a familiar opponent the Warriors no longer play, in 2012.  Thursday the 13th Webb travels to Roxboro before wrapping the week up with their third Friday game in as many weeks, this one a home contest against new conference opponent Chapel Hill High School.  The Tigers mark Webb's first of seven conference games for the season.  Chapel Hill has won several state titles and has sent many players to the D1 ranks, as well as a few former players currently on Major League Lacrosse rosters.

Tuesday, March 8th, and Friday, March 21st see the Black and Red hosting Cardinal Gibbons High School and traveling to Northwood High School, both conference match-ups.  Cardinal Gibbons is another state powerhouse, having been to the title game in 2012, as well as four previous title games, winning the 3A/2A/1A title in 2006. They also have three current alumni playing at D1 schools with almost a dozen total playing in college at some level.

Tuesday the 25th and Friday the 28th find Webb traveling this time to Cedar Ridge High School and hosting Orange High School.  The Cedar Ridge game is set for 7:30 pm, while the Orange game is set for 7 pm.  These two games are the last before Webb's spring break, and their fourth and fifth Big Eight conference games in a row.

After the break, the Warriors hit the ground running against Southern Vance High School on Tuesday, April 8th.  It will be the first meeting between Webb and Southern Vance and only the third meeting ever against a Vance County school.  That same week, the Black and Red head north to face the Vikings of Northern Vance High School on Friday the 11th at 6 pm.  A week later, Webb travels to Southern on the 15th then hosts Northern on Friday the 18th.  Both games are set for 6 pm face-offs.  These four games mark part of the first season in Southern and Northern's history, as lacrosse now expands from one Vance County school (Kerr Vance Academy) to two more.

The final week of the season finds Webb hosting the Red Wolves of Cedar Ridge on Tuesday the 22nd at 7 pm before their final game of the year: Northwood High School, 6 pm at Warrior Field.  This will serve as the team's mandatory endowment game and will also be Senior Night for the Webb seniors.

Should the Warriors finish 6th or better in conference play, they will be invited to the Big Eight conference tournament.  The quarterfinals for this begin Monday, April 28th, with the semi-finals being played the next day. All games are hosted by the higher seeded team, with seeds 1 and 2 both getting byes into the semis and seeds 3/6 and 4/5 playing each other in the quarterfinals.

The Warriors JV schedule is still being finalized but would most likely feature at least 11 games against Northern Durham, RCS, Cardinal Gibbons, Chapel Hill, Orange, Carrboro, and Cedar Ridge in addition to others yet to be determined.
