On Friday evening, August 27th, Mark Burkholder, a sophomore lacrosse player at Dublin Jerome High School, was in a Skateboarding accident.  He suffered a major head injury and has begun the long and painful process of recovery.

Mark is a midfielder/attackman at Dublin Jerome and is pictured below (green) dodging two defenseman and scoring a jumping goal.

Now Mark battles every day to regain the ability walk and perform many other basic living functions.  As you can see from the expression on his face, this is a painful process.  However, Mark is very determined, just as he is as a lacrosse player.

Mark has been in the hospital since his accident and the hospital bills are mounting.  He has made great strides, but also has a long way to go.

On June 13th, Ian Burkhart, former goalie at Dublin Jerome High School, was severely injured in a diving accident in Virginia, leaving him paralyzed. While Ian continues treatment and rehabilitation, his family is working to make his home handicapped accessible.

Though basic home renovations are complete, with winter fast approaching, the Burkharts are now focused on installing an elevator.

Without an elevator, Ian is essentially trapped in the basement, his only point of egress being outside up the hill.  With snow and freezing temperatures, it will become very problematic getting Ian safely out of the house to rehab appointments or for any other outings.  An elevator will not only  give Ian safe access to the garage and his van, but also access to the entire home so he can feel more part of the family.

It is estimated that his first year non-covered expenses will reach $500,000.

LET’S BOND TOGETHER AS A LACROSSE COMMUNITY TO HELP MARK & IAN!!!
