Dublin Jerome today announced that three boys’ lacrosse players have signed National Letters of Intent to play college lacrosse.  Eric Ruhl, the school’s first Junior High School All-American lacrosse player, signed to play at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland and Landon DelPrince and Jared Sims signed to play at Wheeling Jesuit University in Wheeling, West Virginia.

Ruhl, a 6’3” senior, 1st team All- American and All- Ohio, midfielder as a junior, scored a school record 60 goals in 2009 and made his choice after a visiting several universities last fall. “ I want the opportunity to play with and against the best,” said Ruhl. “I loved the campus, coaches, and the players. I can’t wait until I am in a Blue Jays uniform and playing against some of the best lacrosse players in the country.”

“Eric’s achievement is a result of his hard work and exceptional lacrosse skills,” said AJ Auld, Jerome’s head coach. “Eric was fortunate to have been identified as one of the top junior recruits in the country by many college coaches. The fact that nationally ranked teams are recruiting in central Ohio is a complement to our young program and to the success of our Jerome lacrosse alumni that is beginning to open doors for our current and future players. We all wish Eric the best of luck and look forward to seeing him play at the next level.”

Johns Hopkins is located north of Baltimore, MD, plays an independent schedule and regularly faces powerhouse lacrosse programs like Virginia, Syracuse, Maryland, and Princeton.  The Blue Jays have won nine National Championships, most recently 2005 and 2007. Ruhl plans to major in a pre-medicine field or engineering, while attending Johns Hopkins. DelPrince, a 5’9” senior attackman, scored 22 goals and added 21 assists in 2009.  Landon’s play earned him first team All-Region and honorable mention All State honors.  “I really enjoyed my college visit and the team chemistry at Wheeling.  I am excited to have the opportunity to play for a team that I think is on the rise,” said DelPrince.  “Wheeling was the best choice for me because of the mix of lacrosse and academics.”

“Landon is a slippery attackman who has worked hard to develop into a versatile threat behind the goal,” Auld said.  “Landon’s accomplishments are a result of his dedication on and off the field.  It will be exciting to see Landon and Sims competing on the same team in college as I am sure that their chemistry to continue to grow over the next four years.”

Sims, a 5’10” senior attackman, scored 11 goals and had 2 assists in 2009.  Jared will follow in the footsteps of his older brother, Joe.  Joe, a 2006 Dublin Jerome grad, was an All State goalie in high school and is currently completing his senior year as Wheeling’s starting goalie.  “It is nice to be headed to a school that I am familiar with,” said Jared.  “I really like the school, the coaches, and the players at Wheeling and I can’t wait to play for the Cardinals.”

“Jared is an inspirational leader of our squad.  He is the last in the line of three brothers who have all left a tremendous mark on Dublin Jerome lacrosse due to their character and selflessness,” said Auld.  “More importantly than their abilities on the field, Wheeling Jesuit is getting two top-notch individuals in Sims and DelPrince.”

Wheeling Jesuit is located in Wheeling, West Virginia, and competes in the East Coast Conference for lacrosse division 2.  The Cardinals compete against powerhouses like Limestone and Mercyhurst.  Delprince plans to study engineering and Sims is currently undecided as to what to study while attending Wheeling Jesuit.  For additional information on Wheeling Jesuit Lacrosse, visit: http://www.wju.edu/athletics/lax/default.asp
