DENVER – Bart Sullivan, captain of the 2006 NCAA tournament team, will join the University of Denver men's lacrosse team as a volunteer assistant coach, it was announced by head coach Jamie Munro today. Sullivan will work primarily with the Pioneers' defense and with the face-off.

"It is great to have Bart Sullivan on our staff," Munro said. "Bart was a captain of our '06 team which was 12-5. He's a great leader and a bright young mind in the game of lacrosse. He's already making a difference."

Sullivan spent the 2006-07 season as a volunteer coach at Denison University in Granville, Ohio. Sullivan also coached at Dublin Jerome High School. Sullivan has assisted with camps and clinics at DU, Air Force and Ohio State.

While at DU, Sullivan was a staple of the Pioneers' defense, playing in 59 games, including starting the final 31 games of his DU career. Sullivan tallied 109 ground balls in his four years at Denver, including a career-high 30 as a senior. Sullivan was named to the 2005 Face-off Classic all-tournament team at defense his junior season. The Pioneers won three Great Western Lacrosse League championships during Sullivan's playing time, including the first outright title in 2006. With Sullivan on the field, Denver's defense held opponents to 7.9 goals per game. Sullivan was named the 2005 DU Team Defensive MVP.

"I'm excited to be returning to DU," said Sullivan. "The Pioneers have set a high standard for lacrosse in the West and to be returning to my alma mater to coach is an honor. I'm excited to be back with Coach Munro and work with the excellent group of student-athletes that we have."

Sullivan is a native of Dublin, Ohio and graduated from Dublin Coffman High School.
