Celts Retain Emerald Cup

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly May. 11, 2007

Marshall Burkhart (4g, 1a, 8/9FO), Scott Ruhl (4g, 1a), and Brendan Moore (4g) lead the Celtics to a dominating 14-3 victory against rival Dublin Coffman.  After a slow first quarter that ended with the Celts leading 1-0, the defense clamped down on the Rocks attack and the offense caught fire.  The Celtics outshot Coffman 18-0 in the second period and 23 to 6 in the first half to lead 6-0 at halftime.

The second half started with Alex VanKrevel (2a) rocketing a shot off the post only to fall into the stick of a Coffman attackman who scored the Rocks' first goal.  Coffman scored the next goal but the four goal difference was as close as they got as the Celtic offense took over scoring 8 unanswered goals.  Long poles Tanner Seago and Tyler Mordecai each scored to push the game into running clock once the Celts lead by 12 goals.

The Celts outshot the Rocks 43 to 13 and collected 38 ground balls to the Rocks 19.  With the win the Celtics retain the Emerald Cup as each Dublin team went 1-1 and Dublin Jerome is the reigning champion.
