2012-2012 Captains and Officers ElectedSep. 6, 2011 Atlanta, G.A. At the conclusion of the Georgia Tech Lacrosse team’s fall meeting last week, two student-athletes have been tabbed as team captains for the 2011-2012 Georgia Tech men's lacrosse team by a vote of their teammates. Along with the captain position’s, new officers have been elected by their peers, Head Coach Ken Lovic announced today. Georgakakos is a member of Georgia Tech's defense. He played all last year rotating between base defense and long stick midfield. Phil finished his 2011 season with 1 goal and 2 assists and over 50 ground balls. Phil compliments the Yellow Jackets base defensive unit with his speed and athleticism. Akram Ibrahim, Colin Gray, Colin Granger and John Mahoney have been elected as officers for the 2011-2012 year. Junior Ibrahim (Alpharetta,GA.) has taken the position as President of the lacrosse program. Gray (Charlotte, NC.) has stepped into role of Treasurer. Sophomore Granger (Tallahassee, FL) has been nominated and awarded the position of secretary and equipment manager and finally Junior goalie Mahoney has been elected as Vice-President to help Ibrahim with the daily duties assigned to him concentrating on marketing and recruiting assistance. Georgiatech’s freshman and returning players arrived on campus August 18 with the first meeting of the year last week. The team got under way with their first contact practice on Labor Day. Georgia Tech officially opens the 2012 season on February 10 when the Crimson Tide of Alabama comes toAtlantafor a 3p.m. face-off. ####
