Emory Featured on Inside Lacrosse: Kovel and Silberman named Academic All-AmericansApr. 12, 2013 Baltimore, MD - After turning an 0-8, 2012 season into a playoff contention year in 2013, Emory Coaches Karl Schmidt and Andy Carstensen were named Inside Lacrosse MCLA Division II Coaches of the Week on Wednesday, April 10th. With that, Schmidt and Carstensen joined Terry Foy and Dave Franklin (Emory '08) on this mornings' MCLA Inside Lacrosse Podcast to talk about the transition the program has gone through. Furthermore, Franklin geared his weekly feature toward academics and selected MCLA Academic All-America teams for both Divisions of the MCLA. Emory Senior Midfielder, Ed Kovel (New Haven, CT - Hopkins School) and Senior Goalie Jon Silberman (Kennington, MD - Walter Johnson) were both selected to Franklin's Division II Academic All-American team for their fine work in the classroom as well as that on the lacrosse field. Kovel has a 3.9 GPA in the Goizueta Business School and plans on going into business for himself after graduation. Silberman has a 3.93 GPA studying both Political Science and Arabic; he will attend Georgetown Law School in the Fall. http://insidelacrosse.com/news/2013/04/10/mcla-notebook-carter-kransberger-and-slc-showdowns http://insidelacrosse.com/news/2013/04/12/mcla-notebook-podcast-emorys-staff-academic-all-americans David Franklin graduated from Emory in 2008, playing two seasons for the Eagles and helping the programs to its first SELC Championship in 2007. He has been working as a Senior Researcher at CBS Sports since 2009 and been covering the MCLA beat since 2011.
