Emory Shuts Out Missouri BaptistMar. 3, 2013 Athens, TN – On Saturday March 2, Emory Men’s Lacrosse traveled to the field at Tennessee Wesleyan College for a neutral site matchup against the Missouri Baptist Spartans out of the Great Rivers Lacrosse Conference. Cold and snowy weather conditions played a role in the slow tempo of play throughout the game. In the opening stages of the game, both the Eagles and Spartans struggled to get their offenses going, and the weather conditions contributed to two Spartan injuries. Attackman Ryan Douglas broke the deadlock, scoring the first goal for the Eagles. Throughout the rest of the match, the Eagles controlled the field, netting 6 more goals from Ed Kovel, Mike Embersit, and Eli Goodman. The Eagles’ defense (Trent Balbus, Ethan Chung, Mason Nyhoff, Matt Parker, and Brendan Owens) played a crucial role in holding the Spartans scoreless, with Senior Goalie Jon Silberman recording 16 saves. After the final whistle blew, the score stood 7-0 Eagles, the first shutout for Emory Lacrosse since 2009. The Eagles will open their home schedule on Wednesday March 6 at 7:00pm against out-of-conference opponent Aquinas College.
