St. Louis MO: As officially announced this weekend, the Emory Lacrosse team will be traveling to Missouri this spring to face-off with Washington University-St. Louis for the first-ever "UAA / Harlem Lacrosse Challenge Cup". The game, slated for late February and hosted by Wash U, will be the second recent meeting between the two squads. The cup is named in honor of the UAA (the NCAA Division III conference the two schools play in), and it also seeks to raise awareness about Harlem Lacrosse & Leadership (HLL). HLL is a 501(c)(3) non profit - based out of two public schools in Harlem, NYC - that uses competitive middle school lacrosse programs as vehicles for academic mentoring, character education, and leadership training.

With help from the respective coaching staffs, Harlem Lacrosse Program Director, Jake Klein (Wash U '09) and volunteer assistant coach, Dave Franklin (Emory '08) very much rallied behind their Alma maters in order to get this game on the 2013 schedule. "Wash U came to Atlanta for an out of conference game last year and it was on us to return the favor," stated Franklin. "I have never been prouder to be an alumni of Emory University and its lacrosse program. The team is making great strides to improve off of last season and putting this game together is an incredible symbol of commitment from the coaches and student athletes from both schools." Klein echoed the enthusiasm for the upcoming contest, "I'm so proud that Wash U Lax is supporting this cause, getting the word out, and committing to the challenge for years to come."

HLL's initiatives have resulted in 6 point average GPA increases among participating student-athletes (9.5% increase for special ed students), and specifically targets students who are struggling academically and behaviorally in the public school system; through HLL's boarding school admissions counseling service, HLL's students have earned nearly $4.5 million in elite boarding school scholarship offers over the last two years. If you are interested in learning more about HLL, or if you live in the NYC area and would like to get involved, please check out the video on our homepage: http://www.harlemlacrosse.org
