BALTIMORE, MD Lacrosse Magazine released it's top 20 pre-season rankings for all of college lacrosse this morning, ranking Emory 6th nationally in Division 2 of the Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association. Lacrosse Magazine is an official publication of US Lacrosse that compiled its rankings by consulting coaches over the course of the Fall 2007 season. Rankings were compiled in all divisions of the NCAA, NJCAA, MCLA, and the USL WDIA.

Picked to win the 2008 MCLA Division 2 crown was Westminster College, the very team that eliminated Emory in the quarterfinals of the 2007 national tournament. Other representatives of the SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference in the division 2 rankings include No. 13 UNC-Charlotte and No. 16 Savannah; the two teams Emory needed to defeat in order to capture the 2007 conference title.

Emory will take on three other teams ranked by Lacrosse Magazine this spring. These teams include two powers from the state of Minnesota; No. 2 St. John's and No. 5 St. Thomas. St. John's defeated St. Thomas in the 2007 Upper Widwest championship and lost to Montana in the 2007 national finals. SJU also made an appearnece in the 2006 national title game, falling to San Diego 10-3. Like Emory, St. Thomas was also eliminated in the national quarterfinals last year and played EU in a consolation game in Dallas to end the season. The Tommies came out victorious over the Eagles in the post-season exhibition 6-4. Emory will be playing both the Johnnies and the Tommies in Atlanta during the weekend of February 15th.

The final ranked team that the Birds willl face-off with is the 2007 Great Rivers Champion, Harding University. Emory will be traveling to Arkansas to battle 10th ranked Bison on February 24th.
