Emory Earns No. 1 Ranking in SELC Divison 2 Pre-season Poll

ATLANTA, GA Emory University, the defending SouthEastern Lacrosse Conference Division 2 champions received ten first place votes and a top ranking in the 2008 conference pre-season poll. Also earning first place votes were the two teams Emory faced last year in the SELC playoffs; second ranked North Carolina-Charlotte earned four votes, while the third ranked Savannah College of Art & Design received two.

With a large and skilled freshman class and the addition of two transfers, a team who only lost five total players to graduation in 2007 is looking good for 2008. The Eagles proved they can hang with the best in the country at MCLA Nationals in Dallas last year and they will look to spread their wings again to make another trip to the Lone Star State.

This fall was a productive one for Emory. The squad has had a chance to evaluate it's new talent and has learned to utilize it's depth to its entirety. These past months have included scrimmages against some of the best the region has to offer including 2007 SELC Division 1 Champion, Georgia. The birds also played Clemson twice, avenging their 10-8 homecoming loss with a big win at Clemson's Southern Comfort Classic. EU also had the opportunity to take on Division I talents, Vanderbilt and Virginia Tech at the Southern Comfort Tournament in addition to Division 2 rival, SCAD.

The Men's Collegiate Lacrosse Association Divsion 2 Pre-Season Poll is scheduled to be released on January 9th. Emory ended last season with a national poll rank of seventh.
