Alpharetta wins the LB3 Fall Varsity Lacrosse Championship completing a perfect season

Bookmark and Share Printer Friendly Nov. 8, 2010

On November 7, 2010, with both pride and new cleats on the line, the AHS Varsity team defeated Johns Creek 5-3 to win the Fall LB3 Varsity Lacrosse Championship.  This followed a 9-2 victory over Blessed Trinity earlier in the afternoon in the semi-final game allowing AHS to advance to the final game.  Overall, Alpharetta finishes the season a perfect 9-0.

The first game saw AHS playing a Blessed Trinity to a close 4-1 lead at half time before unleashing 5 more goals in the second half.  DJ Nuckolls led all scorers with 3 goals, followed by Nick Hanchey and Tyler Vining with 2 scores a piece.  Kyle Seebolm and Collin Smith also contributed goals.  The defense of Peter DeWispelaere, Brandt Gruass and Dan Schefer held off several Blessed Trinity scoring opportunities with very good goal tending coming from David Adam and Chip Hedger.

In the final game, AHS faced a tougher than anticipated Johns Creek team seemingly unfazed by two previous losses during the season to AHS.  Alpharetta went into halftime leading only by a 3-1 margin, although the game was much closer as Blessed Trinity seemed to match AHS in shots on goal.  In the second half, AHS scored two more goals only to watch Johns Creek answer back with 2 goals of their own to bring the score to 5-3 with over three minutes left.  Ultimately, Alharetta prevailed because of a total team effort.  Our defense and midfielders played our best defensive game of the season as we excelled on our clears and on man-down.  Chip Hedger and Kyle Seebolm also each made several key saves contributing to the win.   On offense, goals were scored by Griffin Smith, Collin Smith, DJ Nuckolls, Antonio Mattei and Nick Hanchey.    Additionally, Patrick Baldwin and DJ managed to win most of their face-offs.

Again, congratulations to all the AHS Varsity Lacrosse players for a great championship season.  A special thanks to John Adams for his leadership and support as a co-coach.
