JV fall ball team finishes just shy of advancing to the championship game

The JV fall ball squad entered the LB3 end of season tournament with a first round game against one of our local rivals, the Chattahoochee Cougars.  The team made a concentrated effort to focus on playing good, sound, positional defense right from the opening, in order to not spot our opponent quick early goals, as we had on a number of previous games.

This strategy worked early, with Hooch turning the ball over a number of times resulting in offensive opportunities for the Raiders.  A very strong effort on our defensive side helped us to only give up one goal, with that being a 3-man up opportunity for the Cougars.  Excellent passing and offensive motion resulted in 11 Raider goals being scored by 7 individual players.   Multiple goals were scored by Thomas Waller (3), Shane Hassett (2), and Jack Rosovsky (2), with Patrick Nursey, Adam Peterson, Alex Majher and Dan Yancey contributing 1 each.  Final score was Alpharetta 11, Hooch 1.

The second game saw us taking on the #1 seeded Roswell Hornets for the opportunity to play in the championship game.  Unfortunately, the crisp passing from the first game did not continue into the second as a number of Raider offensive turnovers resulted in Hornet fast break opportunities.  These fast breaks resulted in Roswell goals when the second defensive slides did not materialize, so halftime saw AHS down 4-1.  The Raider squad however, dug deep, worked on correcting the errors from the first half and got back into the game, pulling within 5-4 with about 4 minutes left.  Momentum had swung our way and the AHS offensive half worked extremely hard over those 4 minutes, running a number of set plays and outshooting the Hornets by a wide margin, however those shots did not find their way into the back of the net, with the final score being 5-4 at the end of regulation.  Raider goals were scored by Thomas Waller and Dan Yancey, each with 2.
