Cal Swanson signs with St. Johns University - Nov 21, 2014

Cal Swanson signed a commitment to attend and play NCAA DI Lacrosse at St John’s University in Long Island, NY.  Cal plays midfield at Alpharetta High school and has been part of the Raider Lacrosse program since middle school.  As a Junior call was a starter on the Varsity team and lead the midfield with 22 goals and 13 assists.  Cal will be a vital part of the team during the 2015 Spring season and expectations will be high.  Cal is the third member of his family to graduate from Alpharetta High School to go on and play collegiate athletics.  Cal’s coaches, teammates, and parents congratulate him on attending St John’s and look forward to watching his counted success both on and off the Lacrosse field.

EFLL 2014 - Sep 8, 2014

ROSTERS

The rosters for this weekend are attached:

  • Red Team = Returning Varsity players (plus 3 players have been asked to join this team)
  • White Team = Returning JV players
  • Blue Team = Incoming Freshman

IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ:  Due to low numbers, we will combine the White and Blue teams

  • For the Blue game the freshman will start, play the most, and be supported as needed by White team players
  • For the White game the JV players will start, play the most, and be supported as needed by Blue team players

NOTE:  By entering 3 teams into the EFLL we significantly increase our playing time, development, and Fall conditioning for our players in preparation for Spring.  This is a really good thing as everyone will maximize playing time and get to work with a wide variety of players to development chemistry before the official Spring season.  For example, for the White and Blue teams we will have 80 minutes of game time this weekend.  If we had entered as a single JV team, we would have twice the roster and only have one 40 minute game.  The trade-off is that because we don’t have enough players to have completely separate teams, we have to combine the teams from week to week and come up with a system to make sure everyone is playing – A LOT!

Please be patient and supportive of the coaches as they work to make sure we have enough players at each game and that playing time is evenly distributed.

NOTE:  EFLL teams that we will be playing are:  Chattahoochee, Milton, Centennial, Roswell, Johns Creek, West Forsyth, and Cambridge.

COACHES

We have volunteer coaches that have been asked to help run practices, attend games, and keep the teams organized.

  • Red Team Coaches:  Dan Baldwin and Bob Kuhlke
  • Blue/White Team Coaches: Stan Finnerty, Patrick Trammel, Jeffrey Craver

These are all volunteer coaches that are serving the program at my request and with the support of the AHS Booster Club.  I will be working directly with the coaches to make sure what they are working on with the players is consistent with what the boys will be doing in the Spring and that the teams are run according to the expectations of myself and the ASH Booster Club.  If you have any questions or comments regarding the coaching staff, please direct them to me.

PRACTICES

  • Tuesdays from 6:00- 8:00 at the Milton Center (OMHS)

REMINDERS

  • Fall Ball is about keeping the players active, getting as much playing time as possible, and having fun.
  • My expectation is that players that have signed up attend all practices and games.
  • For students playing a Fall sport, that sport has 100% priority over Fall Lacrosse.  My expectation is that they meet their obligations to their in-season team and school work before participating in the EFLL.
  • EFLL rosters ARE NOT related to Spring rosters.  We will have Spring try-outs to determine the Spring rosters.

While GHSA rules dictate that I (and the Spring Coaches) cannot have on-field coaching exposure and interaction with these players in the off-season, I will remain very much involved with practice plans, different line-up scenarios, taking notes from the stands, etc to help us prepare for Spring.

Please don’t hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.  With stretching three rosters like we are doing for Fall…it may not be perfect every week.  But know that we are going to do our best to maximize playing time, development, and team chemistry in this ever-important Fall-Ball off-season.  I have always found that the earlier in the season I can address any of your concerns, the more time we have to do something about it.  So please reach out if you have any questions or concerns.

GO RAIDERS!

Thank You,

Coach Fred Ritch

AHS Men’s Director of Lacrosse
