On Monday, District 3 champions, Christian Academy hosted powerhouse Ballard in the first round of the Kentucky State Playoffs.

The Centurions were able to move the ball and played well as they launched a number of shots that just missed or were stopped by great saves from the Ballard goalie. Junior Ben Burchell finally got the CAL scoring going off a feed from Joe Zeiser to knot the game at 1-1 as the first quarter ended. Burchell had another goal midway through the second period to even things up at 2 goals apiece. Another Ballard goal put CAL behind 3-2 at the break.

CAL struck first in the 3rd period as Chad Lewellyn hit an unassisted goal. The match was now tied 3-3 and the stage was set for a classic lacrosse battle. Unfortunately, the tide then turned and the CAL momentum was stalled with miscues and penalties. Ballard took advantage and scored eight more goals, many while CAL was a “man down” as a result of a penalty. The final score was 3-11.

After the game Coach Phil Brock stated, “What a great ride we shared this season. Although we didn't make it as far as hoped, we made some monumental strides in this program.”
