The CAL Lacrosse team had another big divisional test as the traveled to Kentucky County Day on Tuesday, 4/23/13.

The Centurion squad came out firing! Great ball movement and two quick goals by Jonathon Lytle (Chad Lewellyn assist) and Trent Erps (Joe Zieser assist) led to a 2-0 CAL lead.  The Bearcats were knocked back on their heels as all the momentum was with the Centurions.

Momentum can be fleeting however and the CAL squad had trouble staying on track and halftime arrived with the teams knotted at 2-2. The balance of this contest can best be described as “odd.” Missed calls, mystery calls and even a brief altercation lead to a very up and down match.

Ben Burchell blasted in a fast-break score and then assisted on a goal by Mark Highbaugh for a 4-3 CAL lead. Two goals by the Bearcats put the Centurions behind for the first time in the game. Burchell hit another unassisted score with 5:17 left in the 4th quarter to tie the game again at 5 goals apiece.

The tension was high and the CAL defense responded with a great late-game stand. On the offensive half, CAL patiently looked for opportunities. With just over two minutes left in the game, Burchell found such an opportunity. He threaded a pass to a driving Erps for his second goal and the game winner! The Centurions posted a 6-5 victory for their fifth win in a row.

This week CAL will play at Ballard on Tuesday, April 30th.  On Thursday, May 2nd CAL will finish up the regular season and host Eastern; this is SENIOR NIGHT for CAL Lacrosse and all of the CAL Crazies are invited out!
