CAL - Ballard RecapMay. 7, 2012 The CAL Varsity Lacrosse team took on the Bruins of Ballard on Thursday night. The game began by recognizing the seven outstanding seniors (see related story in this edition of E-News). The team came out solid in the first half, building a 5-2 lead by halftime. The defense was led by the deft long-pole skills of Jordan Shutt and Hunter Jordan along with solid play in the cage by goalie Alex Clark. In the second half , the CAL team had difficulty in transition and gave up some quick goals to the Bruins. On offense, the squad moved the pole well but had trouble converting goals. Like many sports, lacrosse can be a game of inches. At least four second half shots hit the pipe, and CAL could only muster 2 more goals and the fourth quarter ended in a 7-7 tie. In sudden-death overtime, CAL worked in for a couple shots on goal, including another shot that rebounded off the goal. Ballard was able to hit the game winner and CAL lost a heart breaker, 7-8 in overtime. Zach Dannelly led CAL scoring again with 4 goals. Matt DeVries, Andrew Frey and Mark Highbaugh each added one goal each.
