Matthew McPheeters graduated from Edina High School in Minnesota, where he was a captain and three time all-conference goalie. Matthew began playing goalie at Baylor as a starter his freshman year. That year he was named 3rd team all-conference. In his sophomore season, Matthew was named as Baylor's Most Valuable Player, 1st team all-conference, and Lone Star Alliance Co-defensive Player of the Year.
